Vedic astrology (Jyotish) is the Indian system of astrology. It uses the sidereal zodiac, which is measured against the fixed stars. Western astrology uses the tropical zodiac, which is measured from the seasons.
The two zodiacs are offset by an angle called the ayanamsa, about 24 degrees today in the Lahiri system India uses. That's why the same person can have a different sign in each.

Plenty of people use astrology as a language for reflection. It's a tradition and not proven science, and dhoop doesn't pitch it as science.
